Festival in the Shire 13 - 15 August
A celebration of all things Tolkien. The Festival in the Shire will be the most comprehensive event ever held for Tolkien fans with a conference, a fan exposition of original art, rare books and memorobilia as well as a large festival. The Festival is for general or new fans with shopping stalls, food, entertainment, activities, film showings and music all day and late into the evening. As well as a large variety of stalls there will be re-enactments and fantasy related events. The Conference is for more experienced fans and JRR Tolkien scholars. There will be a wide range of speakers at the event over the three days with the theme being ‘Welsh influences in the works of JRR Tolkien’. The Fan Exposition is also for more experienced fans and JRR Tolkien collectors with a special collection exhibition and more focused Tolkien events and activities.

Bryn Terfel Scholarship Sunday 17 October
The Bryn Terfel Scholarship will be held at the National Pavilion of Wales, Pontrhydfendigaid, on Sunday 17 October. Eight competitors will compete for the £4,000 Bryn Terfel Scholarship, each performing a 12 minute programme. Before the event every competitor will receive Master Classes from experts in their field. The competitors this year are: Eirlys Myfanwy Davies (Solo); Glesni Fflur (Cerdd Dant Solo); Elgan Llyr Thomas (Solo From Any Musical); Jocelyn Freeman (Instrument Solo); Ceirios Evans (Folk Song Solo); Teleri Mair Williams (Individual Theatrical Presentation); Elen Gwenllian (Individual Recitation); and Cerian Phillips (Solo Folk Dance). Tickets are on sale now at £10 each.
